United Way Introduces New Executive Director

The United Way Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo Board of Directors has hired their new Executive Director. Timothy Troy will be succeeding Cecilia Mutch, who led the United Way after the 2016 Wildfire.

Timothy is new to the Wood Buffalo region yet has many family and friends in our region. As Executive Director, Timothy’s vision will be to leverage his considerable experience in executive management including finance, human resources, government relations, administrative operations, vision-setting and strategic alignment in order to maximize the agency’s overall community impact. Timothy’s experience collaboratively leading multi-disciplinary project teams, developing proactive, value-added partnerships, making evidence-based decisions and managing within strict financial constraints will be of significant benefit to the community.

“We are confident that Timothy will be a strong addition to the United Way team,” said Tony Mankowski, Chair of the HR Committee of the Board.   “We are pleased to be able to tap into the skills of a successful leader who has demonstrated his personal support for the nonprofit sector through both board membership and volunteer hours.  He is well positioned to effectively support the United Way in helping meet Wood Buffalo’s greatest social infrastructure needs.”

Timothy has over 16 years of executive level experience, which included time as Chief Operating Officer, Chief Financial Officer and Vice-President of Corporate Services and most recently as Chief Executive Officer of an integrated, multi-divisional construction and transportation group with operations across the country.  “I’m excited to build on the outstanding work of Cecilia Mutch.  She has been an excellent leader and the agency has benefitted tremendously” said Troy.  “This community is extremely welcoming and is very special to both me and my family. The critical role of the United Way, and social profits more generally, in building a healthy, dynamic, resilient and sustainable community cannot be overstated. Moving forward collaboratively, while leveraging our team’s knowledge, skills and abilities, I’m optimistic that the sky is the limit about what we can achieve together.”

Timothy holds an MBA from the Smith School of Business at Queens University, where he also completed the Centre for Social Impact’s graduate program in socially responsible leadership.  He also attended the Schulich School of Business at York University where he completed an undergraduate degree in Economics & Business.  Timothy is also a professional member of the Institute of Corporate Directors, Institute of Internal Auditors, Chartered Professionals in Human Resources and the Society for Human Resources Management and has served on a variety of non-profit and independent corporate boards over the years.

“We are excited to have Timothy joining our organization as Executive Director. Timothy brings a unique set of skills and talent that are critical as we face our current and future challenges in the Wood Buffalo region,” said Steve Yatauro, Board President.  “Please join me in welcoming Timothy to the United Way Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo and to our community.”
