The United Way of Fort McMurray has added two new directors, providing bench strength in the areas of community investment and financial management.
Andrea Hine joins the group of 16 dedicated volunteers that provide strategic direction and leadership. She has been contributing with the Community Investment Committee since 2013 and has been a team lead on one of the agency support teams for two years. Andrea works at Suncor Energy leveraging her education in Mechanical Engineering from Queen’s University and Masters of Business Administration from Carleton University.
“Serving on the United Way board is important to me,” said Andrea. “It’s hard not to be inspired by the generosity of our community. It’s an honor to be a part of Fort McMurray’s story, especially at such a crucial time.”
When she is not volunteering with United Way, Andrea can be found volunteering for the MacDonald Island Dance Academy; her other passion is ballet.
Paul Phelan joins the Board with a strong background in business controls and financial management. Originally from St. John’s, Paul has a diverse background that included working with Hibernia Management and Development Company Ltd. at the commencement of the first major offshore project in Canada back in 1990. He was hired into ExxonMobil Canada and in 2004, relocated to Sarnia, Ontario to become the Site Controller at Imperial Oil’s Sarnia Refinery and Chemical operations. In 2007, he returned to St. John’s as the Operations Accounting Manager for ExxonMobil Canada.
He and his spouse, Charmaine, relocated to Fort McMurray in September, as he took on the role of Manager of Internal Audit for Syncrude Canada Ltd. Paul is delighted to contribute to the community through the United Way.
