The United Way of Fort McMurray has welcomed a third member to its million dollar club. Shell Albian Sands has been able to confirm that their Community Campaign total has eclipsed $1 million for the first time. They now join the ranks of Syncrude and Suncor in reaching this United Way giving milestone.
“Kudos has to go to our campaign chairs and our many volunteer canvassers,” said Andy Carter, Manager of Tailings and Water, Shell Albian Sands, and the 2014 Community Campaign Chair.
“They really focused this year on getting the United Way message out to more people throughout the organization. We doubled the number of campaign volunteers and their efforts, along with the generosity of our staff, have allowed us to contribute over $1 million to the community fund.”
The Shell Albian Sands total, coupled with additional campaign results from other workplace campaigns has taken the thermometers over the top.
“We are delighted to announce that we have reached our $8 million target,” said Diane Shannon, Executive Director. “So much credit goes to our thousands of volunteers who put their heart and soul into the Community Campaign. They really embraced the story of the United Way and our member agencies that impact lives every single day. Their understanding and passion for why it is so important to give inspired this stunning result.”
“This says so much about the generosity of our citizens,” said Ben Dutton, President, United Way of Fort McMurray Board of Directors. “Despite an unexpected drop in the oil price and changes in our local workforce, Wood Buffalo came through in a way that clearly demonstrates why they have been number one in giving in Canada for the last 8 years. They care deeply about those in need, and have shown it by digging deep into their wallets. We are speechless.”
A final campaign total will be announced after the accounting for 2014 is finalized early in January 2015.
