Exciting addition to United Way team

The United Way of Fort McMurray is pleased to announce the addition of Kiran Malik-Khan to our team, in the role of Director of Stakeholder Relations. Kiran spent that last 7 years in several communications roles with Keyano College where she excelled in sharing positive stories, building strong relationships, leveraging the power of social media, and enhancing community awareness.

“Kiran comes into this role with an abundance of skills and a significant understanding of the United Way,” said Diane Shannon, Executive Director. “Prior to accepting this opportunity, she was a member of our Board of Directors. She steps into the stakeholder relations function with a substantial amount of knowledge and significant community connections.”

A prolific freelance journalist in Fort McMurray for over a decade, Kiran recently achieved her Masters in Communication and Leadership from Gonzaga University. She was named by Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta’s as a Woman of Inspiration in 2014, was awarded the Cultural Achievement Award by the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo in 2011, and was named one of the Top 40 Under 40 by Connect Weekly, also in 2011. Kiran is particularly passionate about promoting cultural awareness and diversity, and contributing to the strengthening of our community and region.

“I’m thrilled to be joining the United Way team,” said Kiran. “This organization does such important work in supporting agencies that create community impact every single day. This role is about building effective bridges between companies and individuals, so we can have a stronger, more resilient and remarkable Wood Buffalo. I’m looking forward to connecting with our many workplace campaign teams and jumping into the 2014 Community Campaign.”

“We think that Kiran is a perfect fit for this role,” said Ben Dutton, President, Board of Directors, United Way of Fort McMurray. “While we are sad to see her leave the Board, going from the governance side to the administration side of the United Way only serves to make us stronger.”
