Community Investment Coordinator

United Way Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo

HOURS: Full Time

35 Hours per week

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

Primary Areas of Responsibility

To pursue the goal of United Way becoming an active participant by assisting the Community Investment Committee and Agency Support Teams.

Community at large

  • Be alert to community issues and potential to build capacity in our community
  • Provide United Way input, be an advocate for, and engage others to support important community initiatives to reduce homelessness, poverty, etc.
  • Coordinate quarterly and annual Member Agency meetings

Member Agency & Community Investment Committee

  • Liaise regularly with agencies, including follow-up on quarterly reporting requirements. Review financial statements and other measurements
  • Fosters trust through open dialogue
  • Be alert to funding opportunities from government or corporations to support agencies
  • Coordination of and attendance at Community Investment Committee meetings to support and record
  • Assist in the coordination of annual Community Investments Committee reviews
  • Assist in coordinating “Days of Caring” program by liaising between agencies and Resource Development Coordinator
  • Work as the team lead in coordinating the Tools for Schools project
  • Coordinate Seeing is Believing tours in collaboration with Resource Development Coordinator
  • Deliver presentations as required
  • Engage on and represent agency on social media

Board of Directors and United Way Team

  • Assists colleagues achieve their individual and organizational goal

Events Planning

  • Assist in the coordination of events: Campaign Kick Off, Volunteer Recognition, Community Building Awards, and any others

Recommended Skills for Community Investment Coordinator

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, assertive and personable
  • Alert to community needs, United Way investments and United Way Value proposition
  • Alert to community issues and activities that may have an impact on the United Way and/or the agencies
  • Ability to establish priorities and timelines to handle multiple projects in an efficient, accurate and professional manner
  • Political sensitivity and an understanding of issues as they relate to the United Way (impact on, campaign, agencies or donors)
  • Great interpersonal skills and a positive attitude
  • Strong sense of initiative and motivation
  • Innovative with the ability to work with little supervision
  • Above average computer skills with experience in use of Microsoft Office Professional
  • Organized with strong ability to prioritize tasks
  • Knowledge of non-profit accounting and financial management practices
  • Proficient in use of Database Software
  • Demonstrated success in public relations and promotion

Additional Details

  • occasional evening and weekend work is required
  • a combination of skills and experience in the field of social work, human services & business administration is preferred
