Community Campaign kick-off focuses on impact

The United Way of Fort McMurray has announced that it will be kicking off its 2014 Community Campaign on Friday, September 5 with a breakfast at the Suncor Community Leisure Centre.

“This is always an exciting day for us as we officially begin our 10-week campaign,” said Diane Shannon, Executive Director. “The money raised during the fall creates incredible impact in our community through the work of our member agencies. The generosity of our donors goes directly to enable the work that these amazing social profit organizations do to change lives for the better throughout the region.”

Breakfast will be served starting at 7:30 am with a short program scheduled for 8:00 am. In addition to a campaign video that will be released, a number of other new communication tools will be announced.

“The kick-off breakfast is such an important event as it creates a high level of excitement and momentum for the campaign,” said Ben Dutton, President of the Board of Directors. “Apart from announcing the big number that we will be shooting for in 2014, we will be celebrating the agencies and people who create impact every single day.”

Following remarks from a number of United Way leaders, an official group photo of the 2014 Community Campaign will be taken with member agencies, their staffs, board members, clients, workplace campaign teams and community leaders.

“The United Way campaign is about people creating community impact,” said Andy Carter, Community Campaign Chair. “We want to get a photograph that captures the spirit and energy of what the most generous United Way campaign in the country looks like.”

The delicious pancake breakfast will be by donation, and everyone is welcome. We gratefully acknowledge the generous support of the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo in helping us present this exciting kick-off event.
