Fort McMurray, AB Friday, September 9, 2011-- The United Way of Fort McMurray has launched the 2011 Community Campaign and announced this year's goal -- $7.5 Million!
United Way made the announcement at their pancake breakfast on Friday morning in front of hundreds of community leaders, agency partners and local youth.
The campaign's theme is Paint Our Town Red -- the colour of United Way. The theme symbolizes the United Way's drive to engage everyone in creating a truly safe and supportive community by asking people to Paint our Town Red. Give. Volunteer. Act.
"We're excited for this goal," said executive director Diane Shannon, reminding people that all funds raised for our community stay in our community. "We know it will be a challenge but we also know the impact it will have on our community. This is our opportunity to come together once again and show what a generous, compassionate community this really is."
The United Way supports more than 60 local programs and is involved in a variety of community impact projects. The 2010 campaign was the fifth consecutive year that Fort McMurray gave more per capita than any other Canadian United Way.
Our Mission: To improve lives and build community by engaging individuals and mobilizing collective action.
