FUNDRAISING SUPPORT FOR PARSONS CREEK VICTIMS

Fort McMurray, AB   Monday, March 12th, 2012--  The United Way of Fort McMurray would like to express our sincere thanks to everyone who supported local fundraisers to aid those most direly impacted by the fire at 350 Parsons Creek.

The volunteers who came together to organize these fundraising events demonstrated the compassionate spirit that makes Wood Buffalo such an amazing community. The United Way agreed with FM4PC (Fort McMurray for Parsons Creek) that funds raised would be directed to United Way, and we would ensure they are “distributed to agency(s) that are directly assisting families in need as a result of the Parsons Creek fire.”

The United Way has been notified that approximately $8,500 has been raised. The United Way of Fort McMurray is now in discussions considering to which agencies the funds (when received) will be distributed. This money will be disbursed to one or more of the agencies that have been providing services aimed at meeting the base needs of those most critically impacted by the fire -- particularly individuals without insurance, other means of family or financial support, and who would otherwise be unable to cope or attain the necessities of life. These proceeds will be transfered to programs providing goods and services, and will not be distributed as lump sums of cash to individuals.

The United Way would also like to thank our Member Agencies: The Salvation Army, the SPCA, Volunteer Wood Buffalo, and the YMCA for their efforts to support those impacted by this tragedy, as well as all the individuals, volunteers and organizations who have provided support.

Our Mission: To improve lives and build community by engaging individuals and mobilizing collective action.
